Dr. Martin Q. Zhao is an Associate Professor of Computer Science in the College of Liberal Arts at Mercer University. His current research is focused on developing smart and secure applications using innovative computing technologies such as SOA, Web services, mash-ups, and multi-touch devices. He is proposing to establish an Innovative Computing Lab at Mercer and is actively involved in innovation and entrepreneurship education through Mercer Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (MCIE) and the Kern Entrepreneurship Education Network (KEEN). His most recent R&D effort was supported through an AFRL contract, which focused on exploring effective ways of extracting security-related information from LAN using leading network scanners. A series software interfaces were also developed to populate a security-centric network model known as the “virtual terrain” using the scan results. Before teaching at Mercer, Dr. Zhao worked for two IT firms, using J2EE, XML, RDBMS, EAI, and other cutting edge technologies to build B2B and B2C applications for clients including Bank of America and Nortel.
